Freivogel is a veteran journalist, as well as the founder and editor of the St. Louis Beacon, one of Missouri's newest and most successful online-only news websites.
Freivogel will speak to her extensive experience as a print and online journalist, as well as "how the most valuable lessons sometimes spring from the most unlikely circumstances."
She is passionate about the Beacon's status as an instantaneous, in-depth and interactive news resource for a new time and place in journalism.
Freivogel grew up and currently lives in Kirkwood (KHS Class of 1967.) She spent 34 years as a St. Louis Post-Dispatch reporter, Washington correspondent and editor - areas ranging from sports and features to nation/world coverage. She was instrumental in creating the paper's ethics standards.
Her ground-breaking reporting on women in politics and other issues won numerous
awards, including the National Press Club Washington Correspondent's Award.
Freivogel was president of Journalism and Women's Symposium, a national organization. She graduated from Stanford University and is married to William H. Freivogel. They have four grown children - Ben, Liz, Meg and J.
Former Keynote Laura Meckler's responsibilities as White House Correspondent for the Wall Street Journal require her to tour with President Barack Obama on April 18. For this reason, she will be unable to attend this year's MCMA Conference.
