Dave Helling named MCMA 2010 banquet speaker

MCMA is proud to announce its 2010 banquet speaker, Dave Helling, who works as a multimedia reporter for The Kansas City Star.

At The Star, Helling produces videos for the Web site Kansascity.com, as well as regular contributions to the print edition. During his time at the newspaper, Helling has covered major events such as the 2008 presidential election and the signing of the health care bill this past March.

Before his time at The Star, Helling worked as an anchor and reporter for KCTV-5, the CBS-affiliate in Kansas City. He as received multiple awards including the Freedom on the Press Award from the ACLU, three Emmy nominations and a silver medal from the New York Film Festival.

He produced the "Truthwatch" series of stories, examining claims made in political advertising. He is a longtime political and government reporter.

Helling graduated from Creighton University in Omaha, Neb., where he served as student body president his senior year.
